A preview of the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival, which opens April 17 and runs through April 25 in Seattle. This year, for the first time, the festival will stretch across a number of venues since the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center is temporarily closed for upgrades.

Langston Hughes film fest opens with a gala screening

The eighth annual Langston Hughes African American Film Festival gets under way Saturday night at the Quincy Jones Theater (400 23rd Ave., at Garfield High School) with a gala screening of Alrick Brown’s new film “Kinyarwanda,” a tale of the Rwandan genocide that won an audience award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
